Meet Our Dev Team and Meet Patient View

    Hello World,

My name is Dieterich and I am a developer here at FrontlineSMS:Medic. The videos in this post are a demo/walkthrough of the main features of Patient View, a FrontlineSMS plugin that helps clinics (mainly in the developing world) manage their day to day operations. Patient View is one of the several software projects we are working on, and more demos are to come soon. I won’t say too much, because I’d like to let the demo speak for itself, but we do welcome comments and suggestions, and hope you all like it.

As a side note, an idea that I’ve been turning around in my head recently is that in our line of work, time lost is not money lost, time lost is lives lost. It’s an odd feeling because we programmers often aren’t really worried about others’ lives, and can just focus on feature sets and geek out to our hearts content, with deadlines that affect only whether or not we get the approval of our boss. Working with Medic is different, because when you’re up late at night with your eyes bugging out of your head, you know that the faster you get this done, the faster your software will be out in the field helping people, literally helping clinics save lives. This is both a sobering and empowering thought.

      Hi Dieterich,

Looks like a great feature. We are currently working on a project to integrate digital X-ray and new lab tests in a TB/HIV program in Zambia. We already use a special GPRS module to transmit the X-ray images to a central database for reading. The patient module looks like a great feature to get lab and X-ray results back to the community and keep track on all patient relevant information. Would it be possible to get a copy to see if we can design a lab/x-ray module into the patientview? Thanks a lot.

      Best wishes,
      Frank

    9. Dr Anand

      Hello Dieterich

I am dr.Anand ,Medical doctor from India.I am very much immpressed by 1.FrontlineSMS:MEDIC

As a medical doctor ,I started implimenting EMR (electronic medical records) for our patient 10 year back ,NOW i want intergrate Frontline:medic.as it share many things common.I wish get beta verison ,if possible.

Now we have been trying various methods to simplify medical data input (for our telemedicine Network) ,even by common people ie non medico. If you think i can help you in anyway ,plz mail me.

      well Wishes

      dr Anand

      Allow us to Introduce ourself.
1.Dr Anand B .Jayaraman .MD., (Family Medicine),
      2.Dr.Anupama Anand ,DGO,DNB (O&G)
      3.Dr.Thangamani MS ,(General Surgery)

      Our Aim “‘.To Provide affordable health care to our People (by our Indian Standards of living)”‘by implementing following methods;

      1. Preventive medicine as a priority in Treatment
2.Clubbing/networking similar kind/illness group of patients for treament and followup visits/diagonosit procedure (to cut down the cost atleat by 50 %)
      3.To provide high quality Generic /Drug bulk redistrubtion /via ERP/Drug Logistics./
4.By breaking the distance barrier between CITY/VILLAGE/TOWN -for medical consulting. via TELE MEDICINE

      About Our Clinic /infrastructure
We run a small scaled clinic named Dhaanyaa Healthcare past 10 years in Chinglepet Town /35 km from Chennai airport/10 minutes drive from Mahindra World City,Paranur. (SEZ -IT PARK).Around chinglepet there 5 medical colleges few more are in pipeline.Shortly they are going to start a Medical engineering Hubs/SEZ are under progress.

Our clinic is fully computerised for Appointment Booking/Case Sheet Maintenance/Lab Module (4 nodes /1 server/2 backup notebooks) for EMR /LAB -LIMS both are networked WAN/LAN for remote management via Internet TCP/IP protocol. We are pushed to use emr system because of our patients mentality and ignorance about healthcare and it consequences, and also due to health care cost.

.Many(50:50) of the Patient dont know or dont want to preserve thier medical record,(bcos they find that is bad Omen for the family). This makes us our medical support costly and not productive.

So we introduce(10 years back, now also functioning !!!) a DOS based/Modified Emr System for our patients to their records with us and we gave a printed prescription with details like MDR ID,Name ,So than we can use/reuse them as Registration cards for their future visits.(ALL THIS MEASURES ARE TAKEN TO CUT DOWN ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS)

Also we have implemented Triage system vai Telephone conferencing ,providing telephone /GSM/FCT router for communication back up ,for patients who live in remote villages. We have list Medical shops that are available in thier area,we also give telephone consultation for Follow up patient ,if they have regular follow up visit as a value added services.(of Course during emergency, guiding them to nearest hospitals)

Now our patients mentality has changed to better (80:20) ,they want to keep their medical files as filed and tagged .They call us for appointments ,them selves they volunteer for annual health check,By serving more patients we keep our marginal profits in newer technologies .so that my patients /families are i get more time to spend with my family

So now ,we want a improve and pipeline existing patient database to our new NT based software(under progress/now we are working on simplifing datainput -logic with interactive system with maxium 2- 5 key stokes /ENTER/ESC/ ALT/CLTR/Fn Keys )/with simple/scalable backend for easy deployment in thin client PC where Medical staff or non medical support staff for entering VITAL parameters like BP/Temp/Wt/Pulse.

What we are Planning /what we expect in our future Software

1.Patient demographics,Registration ID / barcode enabled /USB or Biometeric acess control (which ever feasible)

      * Multi /flexible billing type Debit/Credit/Insurance billing/Co Payee Billing /TPA sponsor billing/ )
*Specimen Tracking in Laboratory /Radiology/diagonostic procedure/By single coded barcode or Numerical code verfication (as used in credit card accounting system)
*Prescription Verification (dual side/MIRC fonting for security or ENCODED PDF barcode.- to avoid future medico-legal issues)

2,Telephone CALLER ID BASED (Pre defined telephone list ) Case Sheet Retrive for remote patients and block an appointment or Token system for consultation

3.Case Sheet Mangement with Printed Presciption (with local language support /pictoral instruction for easy understanding /along with estimated drug cost for the course-)

3 .Annual /Periodical Diagnosis remainder for RISK BASED Patients and for Prophylaxis to cut down Medical cost and to avoid expensive hospital stay.

4.To Track Patient visit Trend (BP,BMI,Blood sugar Etc)for every visit. And system will warn if they exceed normal limits, for Analysing Family linked chronic diseases and send automatic remainders via SMS /e- Mail /Snail Mail/Post Card (By choice of the Patient and affordable mode of communication)

5,Under womens health care ,for high risk obsterics patients , continuous fetal monitoring (Tocograph or Feotal ECG) transmitted via hayes Modem or Internet enable devices /PAP remainders

6.For Men health care ,Remote BP /ECG (HOLTER MONITORING) monitoring for high risk CAD/SHT patients and remainder based blood sugar level monitoring
      for Diabetes patients

      7. For Paediatric segment ,Remainder based Immunization Scheduling via SM’S

8.To Intergrate laboratory equipments (like Biochemistry /Haematology Analysers) by interfacing RS232 port/USB port for duplex mode communications in vai standard/scalable communication ports.Aslo converting basic microscopes to digital microscopes by C-mount Adapters or USB powered CMOS camera to transmit data via Internet TO PATHOLOGIST.

All this requests for software are in slow progress, due to lack of time ,and striping down and simplifying for use of non medical person is difficult.LET US SEE HOW IT SHAPES UP.

very impressive stuff dieterich. i work with a non-profit called world altering medicine which supports hospitals and clinics in malawi. i would like to introduce this system to one of the clinics i will be visiting soon in a rural area. how do i do this?
keep up the good work. what you are doing could help pull rural africa out of the dark ages of medical informatics.
